Amorphophallus konjac
Voodoo Lily

Well, what can I say here? The flower is pretty well described by the genus name only to add that it has a 'surprising' scent. The flower blooms only when the corm is mature usually in the spring but sometimes later and occasionally earlier. (It blooms when it wants to). The plant itself is a very cool looking single leaf that could be described as a fleshy palm tree with boa skin. Why grow it? Because it's cool and funky. To overwinter you can leave it outside in the ground in Z7 or higher but it comes back usually pretty small. In cooler climates or if you want to get it really big let the frost hit it then simply dig it and store dry until it starts to sprout again or leave it dry in its container in any frost free location and begin watering again when you start to see growth in the spring. It's a fun plant and always worth some lively conversation. Part sun. Height 1-5' depending on corm size.
